Fast, easy, healthy, convenient...and frozen...
Those are five things that perfectly describe the entire range of products from Frozen Garden.
- If you've ever come home after a long day at work and are scrounging through the fridge to see if there's anything to eat...
- If you get up in the morming and have no idea what to have for breakfast and you have to leave in 5 minutes...
- If you love having a little bit of flavor in your water but can't stand the taste of artificial drink mixes...
Say goodbye to tedious meal prep...Frozen Garden has EXACTLY what you're looking for.
Frozen Garden makes frozen products sourced from small, local farmers (when available) so you can have them fresh, whenever it's convenient for you.
I had the opportunity to test out samples from the product line of Frozen Garden...smoothies, bowls, "fusions", and overnight oats.
And (spoiler alert), I was really impressed with how easy to make and how tasty these things were.
Frozen Garden products are vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, and contain no added sugar... made with 100% real fruits, vegetables, seeds and spices.
Let's start with the Fusions...
The first one that I tried was Strawberry, Lemon, Basil...this one has a really nice light, fresh taste. It's not a punch in the face, like some artificially sweetened drinks. It gives you a hint of the flavor without being overly strong. I actually found putting two cubes into a glass of water gave me the best amount of flavor.
Here's what it looks like inside the bag...essentially, these are small, frozen blocks of raw ingredients.
You let them melt in your water, then stir it up to mix it evenly.
One of the other flavors I tried was Lemon, Pineapple, Ginger. I found that to be a really nice combination. The ginger gives in a nice hint of a kick.
You can see the ingredients are VERY simple...no preservaties, no weird anything.
These Fusions are awesome in the summertime, when you want something cold and refreshing, but healthy and with almost no calories.
Garden Bowls...quick and easy frozen meals.
I love the concept of these. Just heat them up on the stove top for a couple of minutes and eat.
The ingredients are simple...again, no preservatives or any weird ingredients you can't identify. Just real food, prepared and frozen so all you have to do is heat and eat.
The taste is excellent...nicely seasoned and all quality ingredients.
I will tell you up front, the portion sizes aren't huge, so if you have a big appetite, this likely won't fill you up. As well, I tend to go for higher protein meals, so for me, I had a seperate protein source on the side (chicken sausages went well with this one).
Here's a look at the nutritional breakdown on the packaging.
I also tried the Mediterranean Garden Bowl... and clearly I take awesome pictures (that I didn't check before throwing away the packaging)...
At least the ingredients list on the back was better :)
No line of frozen products would be complete without smoothies...
All the ingredients are in the package, ready to go. All you have to do is throw the contents in a blender, add water and fire it up.
Again, no preservaties or weird ingredients....nothing but frozen fruits, veggies, and other REAL foods. All the flavors I tried were really tasty. Since there's no added sugar, you don't get the cloyingly sweet flavors...it's just natural tasting food in liquid form.
This one had a few added seeds and beans for extra protein.
And finally, Overnight Oats...
The name of this one pretty much says it all. Just add water (or milk or other non-milk beverage) and set in the fridge overnight. In the morning, you've got a healthy breakfast, ready to go...no cooking required.
Normally, you might think you HAVE to cook oats. You actually don't. You can leave them in liquid overnight and they'll absob the liquid, just like when they're cooked (that hastens the process, of course).
And yes, you guessed it...all real food ingredients. No preservaties or other weird anything.
They taste really good...comparable to any cooked oats I've had, and I love the convenience of having it ready to go in the morning.
Frozen Garden...an Overview...
Overall, I love what they're doing with their products. Having fast, easy, convenient stuff that you can just pop out of the freezer and prepare is awesome.
The only hitches that I personally have with the products come down to serving size and protein content. I eat a LOT and the serving size, while totally appropriate for most people, are more of a snack for me. As well, I eat a higher-protein diet, so I would just add additional protein on the side to get that.
The nutritional content of the products is top notch...all real foods, with no preservatives. And the taste is fantastic.
Bottom line, while I wouldn't base your entire diet on their products, they are a GREAT way to have some simple, conventient, delicious eating options available to you right out of the freezer.
The only other major downside is if you have other people in the house, you might find your stock mysteriously disappearing when you're not around... (my wife just LOVED the bowls...I managed to taste them before they disappeared at least ;)...
